Job Description

About the role:You will work as part of an operational team in the Thames Valley South waste treatment business area. Your role in the team would be as a dual-skilled, electrical and mechanical maintenance technician - specifically working on wastewater treatment works in Reading and the surrounding area.The role will involve working both individually and as part of an ambitious and enthusiastic team. The reactive nature of the business requires you to have a can-do attitude, think on your feet, diagnose faults, solve problems and work efficiently.You would work with a large range of process equipment including; sludge belt presses, progressive cavity pumps, submersible pumps, automatic valves and penstocks, inlet screens, scraper bridges, aeration systems, blowers, dosing pumps, and much more.Key Accountabilities:

  • Complying with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Thames Water’s health and safety procedures.
  • Carrying out all works in compliance with current standards and regulations.
  • Fault finding and problem-solving on defective or failed plant and carrying out emergency breakdown repairs.
  • Carrying out minor installation work and modifying the plant on-site to run more effectively and/or efficiently.
  • Carrying out routine PPM (planned preventative maintenance) work on a large variety of plant.
  • Carrying out inspections and testing installations to check compliance with current standards and regulations.
  • Ensuring that all statutory and regulatory measures are achieved and maintained.
  • Providing up-to-date, specialist, technical advice and providing training support for technical trainees and apprentices.
  • Recording basic but accurate data, via a hand-held device, regarding jobs completed, spare part requirements, working times and abnormal operational conditions.
  • A potential requirement of the technician to take part in a 1 week in every 6 out of hours emergency standby rota.
  • To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
  • You will possess C&G electrical and mechanical engineering, following an indentured apprenticeship, or NVQ level 3 in electrical and mechanical engineering. T
  • hose without mechanical qualifications will be considered but is advantageous to have both skill sets.
  • You need a proven track record and technical hands-on field experience in maintenance, ideally with some experience with wastewater equipment but this isn’t an absolute requirement.
  • You will need to have basic computer skills, with the ability to input data.
  • You will also require a decent level of physical fitness, with the potential to be trained in safety procedures such as confined space entry, etc.
  • Due to the nature of this role, a full clean driving licence is required.
