Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.What you will be doingWe are seeking an experienced General Chemistry Technical Manager to join us on a 6-month fixed term/secondment. As the General Chemistry Technical Manager, you will lead and manage a team of 26 analytical chemists, including team leaders and technical specialists, in the day-to-day operations within our inorganic chemistry section. The teamundertakes preparation and analysis by colourimetric and physical-based techniques of potable, wastewater, trade effluent, and solid samples.Youll take responsibility for resources including analytical instrumentation, materials, and laboratory infrastructure within the agreed budget and working to a deadline, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality management conforming to ISO 17025,DWTS, and MCERTS and ensuring company leading health, safety, and wellbeing standards.We are looking for an effective problem solver to contribute to the analysis of trends, spot issues before they become problems and look for opportunities to improve processes, co-ordinate the development and validation of analytical techniques, and play apart in selecting future processes to meet changing customer demands.Typical day to day responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrating leadership in Health, Safety & Wellbeing
  • Ensuring that all data generated conforms to the laboratory quality management system
  • Ensuring service delivery meets the internal laboratory targets and customer requirements in terms of quality, speed, reliability, and flexibility
  • Managing and controlling finances (OPEX & CAPEX) for the team, maximising efficiency, and productivity
  • People management includes defining purpose, goals, and responsibilities, performance management, recruitment, and effective communication of laboratory and corporate strategy
  • Improving the engagement levels to increase both productivity and job satisfaction
Were looking for you to:
  • Be a credible leader with the drive and energy to deliver, leading and supporting your team, driving a culture of safety and performance management across all teams
  • Have a technical degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and ideally be a member of RSC with excellent working knowledge of ISO 17025
  • Take ownership, prioritise, and organise workloads under pressure, managing and prioritising to meet strict deadlines
  • Have highly developed communication and interpersonal and skills to clearly interact with the business and our stakeholders
