Job Description

Transport Manager

  • Annual Salary: £55k - £60k plus 4% bonus
  • Location: Portbury, Bristol
  • Job Type: Full-time
My client is seeking a highly experienced Transport Manager to join the team at their main distribution hub in Portbury. This senior role is pivotal in supporting theirambitious growth plans and requires a leader with the energy and track record to deliverfirst-class service. With a responsibility for a team of over 50, the Transport Manager will play a crucial role in managing and optimisingextensive distribution operations.Day-to-day of the role:
  • Ensure full implementation of safety, health, environment, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct vehicle and personal injury accident investigations.
  • Manage drivers’ tachograph records and infringements, and perform driver licensing and DCPC quarterly checks
  • Ensure compliance with legal and health and safety procedures, and improve the safety culture.
  • Benchmark depot performance, promote best practices, and drive continual improvements.
  • Develop links with manufacturers to ensure vehicle technology advancements are optimised.
  • Lead and motivate the team to exceed objectives and KPIs, and develop potential in line with business needs.
  • Analyse operational data to make adjustments and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Distribution Team to manage breakdowns and delays efficiently.
  • Investigate and resolve customer queries/complaints professionally.
  • Conduct weekly meetings to discuss costs, team performance, service, and operations.
  • Review and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in on-call duties to handle out-of-hours calls.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Customer service experience from a 3PL or similar background.
  • Experience managing a driver workforce, including disciplinary and absence management.
  • Transport Manager’s Certificate of Professional Competence.
  • Full understanding of Working Time Directive, Drivers Hours, and Operators licensing compliance.
  • Experience with routing and tracking applications.
  • Desirable: Experience in a complex network operational environment and managing significant budgets.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or equivalent MRP systems is advantageous.
