Chairperson - Commonwealth Games WalesVoluntary positionAverage of 4 days time commitment per month Initial term of post until December 2026Acorn by Synergie is delighted to be supporting the Commonwealth Games Wales to appoint their next Chairperson. On the back of the success of the 2022 games in Birmingham, Wales are looking forward to a strong showing in Victoria, Australia in 2026. The visions of Commonwealth Games Wales is to create a deep sense of pride that reaches out to engage and touch every Welsh Community. Sport and success brings people together and encourages the athletes of tomorrow to pursue their dreams. This role is pivotalin leading the board to raise awareness of the Commonwealth Games, its sports and the Welsh Athletes by creating an athlete focussed association.The Chair will need to be experienced in corporate leadership and business matters combined with experience in, or a passion for sport in Wales and the Commonwealth Games. The purpose of the Chairperson is to:Lead the vision, strategy and objectives to achieving success in 2026.Create a strong, sustainable commercial programme with top level partnerships and sponsorsEnsure access to all available fundraising opportunities to support Team WalesResponsibilities:* Formally Chair and facilitate board meetings* Determine agenda for board meetings, alongside CEO* Ensure board members have clear role and responsibilities and make sure duties are completed to a high standard* Set objectives for the CEO and appraise performance, offering support and guidance* Review the performance of Commonwealth Games Wales against its business plan, budget and funding targets.* Establish a framework for approving policies and plans.About you:* Senior management experience in a corporate, commercial, charity or public sector organisation, national sport organisation or commercial sports business.* Board level experience, ideally as Chair but certainly at senior Executive or Non-Executive Director level.* Knowledge of the sporting landscape (political, Sport Wales, UK Sport, CGF etc.) and a substantial interest in sport.* Experience of working with multiple stakeholders including Government.* Excellent knowledge and experience of corporate financial management and governance strategies and processes.* Experience of leading fundraising strategies or delivering or leading major event planning would be advantageous skills.* Strong performance and people management skillsTime CommitmentYour time commitment will average 4 days per month to include attendance at Board meetings and committee meetings as required and other activities relevant to Commonwealth Games Wales such as meetings with CEO and stakeholders. This is an average figure overthe duration of the cycle and the required days would likely be greater in the run up to the Games and less in early parts of the cycle.You will find a candidate pack on our Acorn website with more information and details on how to apply.
