Reed Education are looking for a Teaching Assistant / Support Worker to start in April/May 2021 in a Pupil Referral Unit near Torfaen. We envisage this cover being needed until at least June or possibly July 2021, and the post is full time Monday – Friday school hours of 830am-330pm. The rate of pay for this role will be £70 per day. This unit provides education to Secondary aged Pupils between 11-16years old, who may have been expelled from mainstream school. Their expulsion can be sometimes for a variety of different reasons – sometimes children who have traumatic experiences early on in life, or those who may have social and emotional issues causing them to behave badly, can sometimes get into trouble in mainstream school as this is not the appropriate place for those pupils to learn. Therefore this unit is requesting that the member of staff must have experience of working in a Pupil Referral Unit or a specialist school and must have dealt with pupils (secondary) with challenging behaviour and anxiety. The successful candidate must be able to be ok with aggression, swearing, and children who challenge boundaries etc. but who also understands the vulnerability of pupils and be a mentor and guide for them, whilst always remaining calm. They are required to understand behind every behaviour lies a trigger and a function – and it is their job to help get these young people to manage their emotions better, whilst at school to help them in later life.It is also worth noting, the successful Teaching Assistant will assist with education teaching rather than just helping develop life skills so they must be engaging, on the ball, and be experienced with helping deliver the national curriculum for core subjects.Interested Fantastic.
