Job Description

Design EngineerFull Time, PermanentPontypool, Wales £35,000 - £40,000 + Benefits MondayThursday 8:00am4:30pm & Friday 8:00am1:00pm Company Benefits: 25 days annual leave + 8 days BH, Company sick pay after 1 years service My client is a leading manufacturer for the aerospace, MOD, & oil and gas industry who operate on multiple sites. There Welsh site is the hub for manufacturing forged die components that are mainly used is the turbine for several different planes.Reporting into the Technical Product Manager as the Design Engineer you will oversee designing the production route for manufacturing of forged products. Taking ownership of the design process from cradle to grave, working closely with the customer to makesure that they are happy with the result. Job Description

  • Effective design and implementation of products into the manufacturing process
  • Design of dies, tools, and relevant ancillary fixtures for manufacturing of products
  • Creation and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Maintain drawing office procedures
  • Ability to create and utilise CAD models
  • Utilise FEA simulation software for product design
  • Technical liaison with suppliers for relevant product design requirements
  • Liaise with customers
  • Provide Design support for New Product enquiries at the estimating stage. (E.g., proposed inputs, equipment, and methods.
  • Support new product and product changes dimensional assessment and MSA requirements
Qualifications/ Experience/Skills
  • Undergraduate in an Engineering Discipline, BTEC (or relevant aligned qualifications) with supporting experience and qualifications
  • Previous manufacturing design experience working within a business that produces precision engineered products, in a highly regulated industry
  • Understanding of hot metal forging processes and associated manufacturing methods
  • Experience common design software and simulation software
  • Problem solving and project management skills
Desired
  • Specific Forging knowledge/experience
  • Understanding of CNC machining processes (turning and/or milling)
  • Metallurgy understanding, knowledge or experience
  • Experience of CMM or FARO dimensional assessment
  • Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative as well as under instruction.
  • Ability to develop working relations and influence peers and colleagues
  • Working closely with the Machinists to identify issues and improvements.
