Job Description

RECRUITMENTiQ are delighted to be working with the Fire & Rescue services based in Pontyclun, and they are seeking anAuxiliary Reserve Firefighter.The principal aim of the Auxiliary Reserve Firefighter is to protect and save people and property from fire and other hazards in the most competent and effective manner during possible Industrial Action.Rates of pay

  • Up to £13.59 per hour during the period of initial training
  • Up to £13.59 per hour for ad hoc training or additional duties
  • Up to £261.37 for attendance at the quarterly re-familiarisation training day.
  • Up to £261.37 quarterly retainer payment subject to attendance at the quarterly re-familiarisation training day.
  • Up to £70 per hour in the event of being employed during industrial action as an Auxiliary Reserve firefighter.
Do you want to help South Wales Fire & Rescue Service fulfil its statutory duty to provide an emergency Fire and Rescue provision to the communities of South WalesThe vision of South Wales Fire & Rescue Service is to make South Wales safer by reducing risk.They aim to protect and serve across the 10 Unitary Authorities that make up our diverse area, working in partnership with their colleagues in other frontline services.Therefore, resilience is required on such times of need. This is where you could make a difference and become an Auxiliary Reserve Firefighter.You will be provided with core skills training appropriate to the nature and extent of emergencies and incidents that Auxiliary Reserve Firefighter personnel could be expected to attend.The nature of incidents that the Auxiliary Reserve Firefighter could attend include; domestic and commercial building fires, car and other vehicles fires, road traffic collisions and railway incidents. The list of incidents is not exhaustive.South Wales Fire & Rescue Service are seeking to recruit further personnel to add to the existing Auxiliary Reserve Firefighter that has been in existence for eight years.Location: Deployment will cover the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service geographic area. The Auxiliary Reserve Firefighter base is at Abercarn Fire Station. There is no barrier to applying if you live outside the Service area.Minimum requirements:
  • You must be 18 years of age at the time of your application.
  • You are eligible to live and work in the UK and have proof of right to work.
You are required to pass:
  • Physical and Practical exercise
  • Interview
  • Medical examination which will include a drug and alcohol test.
  • Basic disclosure barring check.
Class C LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) Licence: Applications are also welcomed from those holding a current Class C LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) licence and can evidence experience of driving this Class of vehicle. Individuals who then pass an internal SWFRS LGV initialdriving skills assessment could be offered an Emergency Response Driving course.Successful completion of this course will result in a further £250 payment per year based on 2 half day re-familiarisation training sessions.Application forms should be completed online though our e-recruitment system, which can be accessed via our website by clicking apply.The closing date for applications 20th December at midday.All documentation is available in both in English and in Welsh and we welcome communication in either language.Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably.Dates for interviews, physical and practical assessments and medicals will be confirmed at a later date and will be arranged where possible over the weekend period.South Wales Fire and Rescue Service believes in the real value of having a diverse workforce and we proactively want to encourage applicants from all sectors of our community to apply.
