Job Description

Welding EngineerSF34245Location: Devonport, PlymouthSalary: £36,525About the RoleHere at Babcock International were looking for a Welding Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Were a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.The Welding Design Department supports repair and maintenance activities on Warships and Submarines and works alongside the Non-Destructive Testing and Welding Compliance Section to ensure the management of a high quality welding. Areas currently being developed include the application of Engineering Critical Assessment and increasing the use of mechanised welding. As a Welding Engineer youll work within the Welding Engineering Team providing subject matter expertise to project and production teams and interacting with other areas of the wider business to interpret welding related problems and share knowledge.Using your working knowledge of welding processes and techniques youll carry out a range of day-to-day tasks to support production activities and our external customers, including the functional management of new welding procedures in the Departments workshops, the authoring of technical engineering reports/proposals for bespoke welding techniques and the review of sub-contractors quality systems to ensure we are maintaining a high quality of welding throughout the site.What do I need to do the roleYoull have completed a Craft Apprenticeship / National Skill Framework (minimum Level 5 / Graduate Training Scheme and /or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline and have significant experience as a Welding Technician or Engineer. Working knowledge of submarines/surface ships in both structural applications and pipe systems are also essential.We would also like you to have some or all of the following:

  • Proficient in using engineering software
  • International Welding Specialist certification
  • PCN Level 2 in Radiographic Interpretation
  • CSWIP 3.1 Visual Inspection Course
  • NIC or Nuclear Practitioners Course Modules 1 and 2 or equivalent
  • Lastly, this position requires someone who has a strong team ethic, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.What else do I need to know
  • The successful candidate must be a British National and hold, or be eligible to acquire NNPI, PSA and Atomic Security Clearances.
  • Passport, licences and qualification documentation must be presented at interview stage.
