Job Description

SHEF Practitioner SF32208Devonport, PlymouthStarting Salary: £36,525About the roleWere looking for a SHEF Practitioner to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Were a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world.The Babcock Group goal is "Everyone goes home safe every day". To achieve this we invest in the safety and health of our workforce, including employing competent SHEF (safety, health, environment & fire) resource to support us in managing our risks and driving continual SHEF improvement.As a SHEF Practitioner youll work to proactively drive continual H&S improvement at the SBU and wider business, implementing the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies. This will include but wont be limited to;- development and maitenance of the Safety Management System; review of H&S policies/processes; development and delivery of H&S reports, communications, policies/processes; Active Monitoring - scheduled/unscheduled health checks and inspections; advising operational areas regarding the practical application of safety processes.When required youll also assist with the investigation of accidents/incidents/cases of ill health to identify root cause and ensure corrective and preventative action; develop and deliver H&S awareness sessions, initiatives and projects and attend Project meetings in support of H&S.What do I need to do the roleYoull have a good standard of educationand hold, or be working towards, a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent; the ambition to achieve Chartered Safety & Health Practitioner status is highly desirable.We would also like you to have the following:

  • Relevant H&S experience in a hazardous industry (E.g. Construction Industry)
  • Working knowledge of Dockyard operations, the Royal Navy or similar experience.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to report and present complex information.
  • Confident IT user.
  • Lastly, youll be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) and have a demonstrable passion for H&S, which youll be asked to evidence at interview.What else do I need to knowThe successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements.
