Senior Naval Architect / Senior Structural Engineer x2Devonport, Plymouth£43,000 - £46,000 starting salary dependent on experienceSF32759About the roleEnergy & Marine (E&M) is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M Engineering is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the marine and defence markets worldwide. We have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme, as well as, providing engineering services to the UK Surface Ship and Submarine fleet. Also, with ongoing additional framework agreements, infrastructure projects, export markets and research & development projects. Therefore, we are looking to grow our existing team, building on a well-established foundation of over 700 staff across the UK.As Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for substantiating designs through calculations, producing technical reports and providing technical support. You are required to contribute and lead product development through the design lifecycle and provide technical support. Also, you will liaise with design team and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including supporting design reviews.You will provide substantiation reports for installation solutions, foundations/seating, repairs/conversions to vessels and in support of concept designs. You will be responsible for preparation and production of substantiation reports for solutions during the entire design lifecycle phases (Concept, Basic, Functional, Detail, Manufacturing, Installation and Decommissioning), in line with recognised standards and to the required; time, cost and quality requirements.You will develop innovative design solutions, provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries. You will produce technical reports, other documentation and assist with the maintenance and improvement in quantity standards of outputs. In addition, be aware of and ensure that, health, safety and environmental requirements are implemented.This will be a fantastic opportunity to join a team of like-minded Engineers and support on our high profile projects. As well as working for the UKs leading naval support business, we will also provide you with all the training, support and benefits that you would expect from a global company.What do I need to do the roleYou will be Degree qualified in either Structural Engineering or Naval Architecture, alternatively, you will hold HND/HNC level qualification with extensive practical experience of working within a structural engineering/naval architecture role. You will be a Chartered Engineer or working towards it, holding membership of an appropriate professional institution.You will need demonstrable experience in structural engineering on vessels/marine platforms, demonstrable experience of using Finite Element (FEA) Analysis, ship stability packages, demonstrable experience of using 2D & 3D CAD packages, experience with working with production teams as well as good written and verbal communication skills.What else do I need to knowYou will work 36 hours per week Monday to Friday with flexible working and you must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance.About Babcock InternationalFor more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services.
