Job Description

Senior Health PhysicistSF32202Location: Devonport, PlymouthSalary: £45,000 to £53,000About the RoleWere looking for a Senior Health Physicist (Environment - Radiation Protection Techncial Authority) to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Were a key strategic partner to our customers we ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.As a Senior Health Physicist you will managing a small team of Health Physicists/Radiation Specialists and be responsible for:• Providing Babcock operations with specialist knowledge and support relating to nuclear and radiological safety• You will be expected to become the lead on a number of environmental radiation protection projects.• You will ensure compliance with statutory legislation, including the Environmental Permitting Regulations, and the terms of the site licence; deliver nuclear safety cases and Best Available Technique assessments; develop and implement nuclear safety processes and standards and provide technical advice on nuclear safety assessment processes and policy.• You will support both new-build infrastructure, as well as projects relating to the development of existing dockyard and naval base assets, thus helping us to create the naval base and dockyard of the future, supporting the Royal Navys current submarine fleets and ready to receive the next generation of naval platforms.What do I need to do the roleYoull hold a Science Degree in Radiation Protection, or a Science, Engineering or Mathematics Degree with relevant Radiation Protection experience. Youll be a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (or equivalent) or willing to work towards this. You will also hold, or be working towards, Radioactive Waste Advisor accreditation.We would also like you to have the following experience:• Environmental Permitting and Radioactive Waste Management on Nuclear Licenced Sites• Nuclear facility licensing and authorisation• Provision of Radiation Protection advice within an operational environment• Preparation of Radiation Protection documentation in the support of safety case submissions• Generation and maintenance of radioactive waste assessments including the application of BAT• Lastly, youll need strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to confidently interface with Stakeholders at all levels within the organisation, up to Board Level.What else do I need to know• This position will require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving Security Check (SC) clearance.• Babcock offers supportive environment including: enhanced employment terms and conditions, money purchase pension scheme with life assurance, share ownership scheme, Occupational Health services, flexible working hours (only non-industrials), career opportunities and specialist advice and guidance from our Learning & Development teams.• We are happy to talk about flexible working.
