Senior Environment and Sustainability Practitioner (Major Infrastructure Projects)SF33580Devonport Royal Dockyard, PlymouthStarting Salary: £36,525About the roleWere looking for Senior Environment and Sustainability Practitioner (Major Infrastructure Projects) within the Environmental Management function to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Were a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.You will be part of the wider Safety Health Environment and Fire (SHEF) Department at Devonport Royal Dockyard. This particular post will be solely working within the Major Infrastructure Projects area of the business.The purpose of the Environmental Management function is to help the organisation constantly improve the management of its environmental aspects and provide an insight into the levels of environmental performance at Devonport. This post will be heavily involved with Contractor performance, and maintaining the standards set by Babcock.A key part of the department is to develop systems and working practices which lead to improvements in both operational site performance and the overall sustainability of the business.To support the Environment Manager in the delivery of environmental management and compliance within Major Infrastructure Projects.What do I need to do the roleYou will be qualified to a minimum of a Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, have a membership of IEMA or another relevant professional body. It is desirable you will be accredited Internal EMS Auditor Qualification and have Health and Safety qualifications (or training).We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:*Thorough working knowledge of general environmental management. Specifically pollution prevention and environmental permitting. Knowledge of the application of appropriate techniques and procedures in accordance with any statutory requirements, ENRA, environmental permit or procedure to prevent pollution.*Through working knowledge of waste management. Including the classification, collection, processing, disposal, managing and monitoring of waste.*Have a knowledge of the appropriate environmental training for employees & contractors to meet the business needs and to ensure that environmental protection is considered at all times*Have a good knowledge of the Environmental Permitting Regulations and the associated compliance obligations for holders of environmental permits*The above in a construction or civil engineering environment is highly desirable.Lastly you will have a suitable experience of environmental management in an industrial setting, particularly in the construction industry. Experience of working with Environmental Management Systems (EMS), particularly those accredited to ISO14001 and experience of working in a marine or dockyard environment is desirable.What else do I need to know*The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving Security Check (SC) clearance.*We are happy to talk about flexible working.
