Job Title: Principal Design Engineer - Refit Support Equipment (RSE)Location: Plymouth, Devon, GB, PL1 4SGCompensation: £50,510 - £56,665 + pension (up to 8% matched) + 25 days holidayRole Type: Full time / PermanentJob ID: SF40423Here at Babcock International we are looking for a Principal Design Engineer to join a growing team working at our Devonport site (working on site and from home). Within the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority for RSE you will provide engineeringsupport and advice, and deliver design solutions in support of naval nuclear refit and maintenance facilities across the Devonport Nuclear Licensed and Ministry of Defence Authorised Sites.Who we are looking forYou will need a proven background as a Principal Design Engineer in a regulated high hazard industry with expert knowledge of pressure systems, pipework design, tank design, pump selection, specifying overpressure protection etc. You will be able to demonstratea detailed understanding of the phases of typical defence industry product / system lifecycle models. You will have a degree relevant to the field of mechanical engineering.What will you be doingYour primary focus will be managing, maintaining and controlling modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of nuclear implicated mechanical/pressure systems and acting as the custodian of reference design documentation for RSE. You will be responsiblefor undertaking technical specification, design and numerical assessment lifecycle activities from requirements capture, design development, implementation, through-life support, decommissioning and disposal.You will be focused on ensuring compliance with Licence Conditions, statutory legislation (e.g. the Pressure Systems Safety Regulation) and design codes/standards, producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses, and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.You may be required to occasionally work in radiologically controlled areas (training will be provided).The experience youll bring* Have significant experience at an appropriate and responsible level in a relevant field of engineering;* Be a chartered member of an engineering related professional institution;* Have managed a team of engineers;* Have experience of project planning, budgeting and delivery;* Have produced, checked and approved a wide range of mechanical engineering drawings and documents using industry recognised software applications;* Have produced, checked and approved numerical analyses (hand calculations, Finite Element Analyses, Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses);* Have or be able to obtain security clearance to the SC level.What a role with the Babcock International Devonport Facilities Engineering Services Offers:* 25 days holiday + 8 days bank holidays;* You will work a 36 hour week Monday to Friday with an early finish on Fridays;* Pension Plan;* Paid professional institution annual subscription for a single professional institution;* Autonomy - trusted and empowered to deliver and be your best;* When not working from home, you will work from a modern office environment, which has an integral cafe and fitness suite.About Babcock International and DevonportFor more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence Company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services.
