Working for Ocean EcologyOcean Ecology Limited is a marine ecological consultancy that specialises in providing marine ecological surveys, analysis and consultancy services to feed into EIAs, monitoring programmes and research projects.As part of our continued growth in the UK and overseas were offering a number of Laboratory Taxonomist apprenticeships positions in our Gloucester and Plymouth laboratories. These roles will provide the successful applicants with an excellent opportunityto learn about the workings of a commercial laboratory and a unique insight into the rapidly growing marine consultancy sector.The experience gained in this role, will lead you towards the completion of a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship. This structured qualification will help you to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive in the role of LaboratoryTechnician.What its like being a Laboratory Taxonomist ApprenticeAs a Laboratory Taxonomist apprentice at Ocean Ecology, youll become an integral part of a rapidly growing company with highly dynamic team. The role will include in-house training in processing marine samples as well as training on identifying marine species.Some of your main responsibilities will see you helping with the day-to-day upkeep and running of the companys laboratories. Youll be assisting with different stages of marine sample analysis, including sieving, extracting biota from sediment, biomassingand assisting with particle size analysis. Alongside this, youll be accountable for the general upkeep of client and in-house specimen reference collections.What could the future look likeBy joining Ocean Ecology, youll be joining a reputable business, which will guide you how to make a successful career progression.Upon completion of the apprenticeship, youll have the opportunity to continue your journey with the company on a permanent basis within the laboratory or to explore different sectors.So how does the apprenticeship workOver 21 months, youll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on off the job training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spentwriting assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship.
