Job Description

Nuclear Safety Senior Inspector Ref 26900 Location: Devonport, Plymouth About the role Babcock has created a new Independent Nuclear Oversight function within the Assurance directorate, which means that we are looking for Senior Inspectors to join on a permanent, full time basis. This is a new function within the business unit and is key to delivering the businesses internal regulatory activities .As a Senior Inspector, you will deliver independent oversight of nuclear related activities, you will provide independent advice and guidance to the business at a local level and to the wider organisation. You will ensure effective interface with external regulators and internal stakeholders in relation to nuclear, radiological, conventional, environmental, fire and security of nuclear and hazardous materials matters for facilities across the Devonport site. Reporting to a Principal Inspector, you will be accountable for delivering your part of the oversight programme In addition to this, you will assess activities against leadership and management for safety requirements on an ongoing basis and you will support site investigations into events that may lead to enforcement actions. You will also report findings to the Principal inspectors and expedite the close-out of raised investigation findings. What do I need to do in the role To be successful in the role, you will have relevant recent experience in the nuclear regulatory field and be capable of delivering sound judgements often in a pressurised environment. Additional qualities and competencies:

  • Detailed knowledge of Licence Conditions and Authorised Conditions and how they are complied with on a Licensed or Authorised site
  • An influential, persuasive and diplomatic approach to achieving objectives, emotionally resilient and be able to get the job done in difficult circumstances and;
  • The ability to work as part of a team, particularly within a programme management environment, to effectively plan, prioritise and be forward thinking with good investigative ability. In addition, qualifications required:
  • A degree, or equivalent, in an appropriate scientific or engineering subject
  • National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Diploma
  • Nuclear Practitioner course Modules 1 to 4 (desirable) or Nuclear Warship Support Course (desirable)
  • Qualification or significant experience in auditing and investigations
  • Lead Auditors Course
