Job Description

Do you have experience in accounting for a Local Authority / Local Government Do you want to work remotelyI have an opportunity for three Finance Assistants to join a Councils accounting team for an immediate start on a 3 month contract.The purpose of the role will be to provide effective support to clients and senior finance colleagues regarding the timely provision of accurate information, financial or otherwise, to aid the decision making processes and the production of management and statutoryaccounts and financial statistical returns.You will:

  • Prepare budgets and undertake budget monitoring
  • Undertake accounting for very large sums of money
  • Make realistic projections for expenditure and income
  • Provide timely financial advice to budget managers to ensure consistency and accuracy of accruals and prepayment
  • Present reports and data at meetings with service managers
  • Analyse, interpret varied data and solve varied problems and develop solutions over the short term
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Knowledge and understanding of grant claims, statistical or financial returns
  • Awareness of VAT
  • Degree/AAT qualified or equivalent and/or demonstrable experience working in accountancy or audit environment
  • Knowledge and awareness of local government finance including sources of funding
  • Reasonable recent experience of local authority finance (desirable)
  • Experience of using councils financial systems (desirable)
This is a remote-working opportunity, but you must be based in the UK due to the requirement to get IT to you.There is the possibility for an immediate interview/start for suitable candidates.
