Job Description

Ferry SupervisorAn exciting position has become available for a full-time Ferry Supervisor based in Torpoint. The successful candidate will work 37.5 hours per week and earn £29,939 - £34,291 paid on a monthly basis.Most of the shifts are 8 hours long, but there may be occasions where these differ due to requirements. The rota may need to be adjusted at times to attend training, meetings or administrative requirements within the organisation.Role Requirements

  • Role requires in depth experience of people and change management, strong organisational skills and a flexible approach to support delivery of projects and coordination of training.
    • Should be adaptable to change, quick thinking, operate well under pressure and comfortably manage competing priorities.
    • Must have a strong understanding of health and safety and excellent customer service skills.
    • Candidate must demonstrate high levels of IT literacy and communication.
    • Significant experience in managing staff performance, setting improvement objectives, delivery of appraisals.
    • Working with and setting staff rotas.
    • A minimum of two years experience (FTE) of working in a pressurised customer service environment.
    • A high level of reporting, record keeping and similar writing ability, including a strong competency in using MS office software including Word, Excel and MS databases (or equivalents).
    • Ability to make independent decisions, motivating staff in challenging circumstances and giving clear instructions to employees when unexpected events occur.
    • Practical experience of applying internal policies and working as part of a team.
Role Responsibilities
  • Provide first line people management.
  • Supervisors monitor and control the safe movement of traffic and pedestrians embarking and disembarking the ferries.
  • Overseeing daily operations, they report to the Ferry Operations Manager and line manage one of nine ferry crews.
  • Delivering HR support to staff and routine supervision of all aspects of the operation. This includes the safe, timely and efficient coordination and availability of 1, 2 or 3 ferries depending on the time of day and demand.
    • Ferry supervisors monitor CCTV, marine radio and shipping movements to mitigate likeliness of service disruption and support security requirements when planning operational activities.
    • Planning should be carried out in accordance with legislation, maritime regulations and organisational policies and procedures.
    • Staff supervision, support and development are fundamental requirements in the day-to-day function of the role.
    • Mentor crew, monitor staff probation periods, manage performance and attendance, preparation and delivery of crew appraisals and team building in support of the Operations Manager.
    • Significant data entry to complete operations logs and the submission of various reports, in addition to liaising with outside agencies and the emergency services.
