Job Description

RSR are currently recruiting for Evidential Property Officer To receive and safely retain all property seized or handed in to the Alliance Evidential Property Stores and on completion of all enquiries and police action, to return the property to its rightful owner or dispose of the property according to Force Policyand Guidance.The Evidential Property Officer will take a lead role in the day to day running of the Force Property Stores and be responsible for the reception, retention and subsequent disposal of property. In addition, the Evidential Property Officer will be responsiblefor the delivery of training/mentoring of new staff as directed by the Evidential Property Supervisor until such time as they have attained the required knowledge and experience to operate alone.Location: PlymptonContract: 3 months contractWork hours:Full timeSalary: £11.11 per hour PAYE - £14.38 per hour UmbrellaVacancies: 2Vetting Level: NPPV3 / MVMain duties and responsibilities

  • Receive and safeguard all property seized by, or surrendered to, the Dorset Police.
  • Store items of seized and found property in a suitable location.
  • Record all items against the computer system to enable the property to be recovered later
  • In respect of Seized Property, on receipt of instructions from the Officer in the Case the Evidence Officer will dispose of property lawfully, correctly, expediently and by the most cost-effective means.
  • To ensure that all items have been correctly bagged and tagged to comply with Force Guidance and entered on the computerised property system.
  • To ensure property will be in a safe condition whilst kept in the Property Store and not in such a state as to cause harm to staff, other property or the storage environment.
  • To ensure that all property recorded on the computerised property system is managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Take responsibility for the application of additional security measures and special disposal requirements to the following:
  • Firearms, Ammunition and Offensive Weapons, Drugs, Cash, Precious Metals, Interview Tapes, Media items, Property sold by public auction, Forensic Material, Hazardous Chemicals
  • To ensure items are received and securely stored in a safe condition then disposed of by the most appropriate methods
  • Mentor and support new members of staff within the team at the direction of supervision.
  • Using force transport, collect and deliver items of property to and from various locations and recording details of property movements on the computer system.
  • When required take photographs of items then either dispose of property or re-seal and retain the property.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the property stores including the day-to-day operation specialist storage facilities such as freezers.
  • Provide access for visitors and to ensure all non-property store staff are escorted and properly supervised whilst within the confines of the property store.
  • Take responsibility for the security of the Property Store by ensuring protective security measures are all in place whilst the store is occupied and when closed by activating the alarm systems and physical security measures.
Essential
  • Good communication/interpersonal skills and proven good customer service experience - the Evidential Property team offers a service to police staff and members of the public which should be achieved to the highest possible standards at all times.
  • Computer literate with good keyboard skills - The Property service operates a computerised property system.
  • Honesty and integrity - the post holder will be solely responsible for the receipt and safekeeping of all items most of which may be required as evidence in court hearings.
  • Able to undertake manual handling tasks - the Property Store holds a variety of items of different sizes and weights including bulk items. The post holder must be able to collect, move and transfer any item where reasonable to do so primarily alone andwithout the direct assistance of others by using the lifting equipment provided. (Training and PPE provided)
  • Full valid driving licence, - the post holder will be required to drive Force transport, including parcel vans, to collect and deliver items of property across the Force area
  • The requirement for members of the public and other agencies to collect or deliver items of property may require weekend working or unsociable hours on some occasions.
  • Operational activity such as a major CID operation or seizure of drugs/property may require Evidence Officers to be called out outside of normal office hours.
  • The requirement to dispose of certain items may require Evidence Officers to work outside their normal office hours.
