Job Description

Construction ManagerDevonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth About the roleWe’re looking a Construction Manager within the Submarines business unit to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key delivery partner to our clients customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing the project requirements in-depth to schedule deliverables and support cost estimating
  • Forward planning to prevent problems occurring and resolving any emerging issues
  • Ensuring a robust risk management process is implemented
  • Supporting sub-contract drafting, negotiation and agreement
  • Ensuring safe systems of work are developed and implemented
  • Overseeing all on-site and off-site construction works
  • Monitoring compliance with all construction health, safety and welfare regulations
  • Coordinating and directing construction teams, including subcontractors
  • Ensuring contractual conditions of performance are met
  • Reviewing work progress daily and preparing internal and external reports on project status
  • Ensuring quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques
  • Ensuring manpower and resources are adequate and competent to carry out the works
  • What do I need to do the role
  • Engineering or construction management related qualification (HNC, HND, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng). Chartered status (e.g. MICE, CIOB) also an advantage
  • 10 years + experience in the planning and delivery of major infrastructure projects
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme SMSTS (or equivalent) or higher health and safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH
  • Other relevant training (e.g. Appointed Person, relevant lifting training and temporary works co-ordination) an advantage
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to manage and control complex tasks and lead a team
  • Willing to mentor and develop junior staff
  • What else do I need to know
  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
