Commercial Officer SF39741Location: Devonport, Plymouth, GB, PL1 4SGPermanent, Full timeStarting Salary: £37,165About the roleHere at Babcock International Group, were looking for a Commercial Officer within our Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) business unit to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.Were a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applyingour core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.The business continues to be awarded new work and grow at a significant rate and as a result, MIP are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to be part of our Commercial team.This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on both the Prime and Subcontract requirements with experienced personnel in order to achieve a successful outcome.Key duties include:

  • Primarily responsible for the delivery of commercial support to the Senior Commercial Officer and other members of the Team as required.
  • Provide contractual support during Prime and Subcontract contracts.
  • Provide/issue Subcontract tenders, carry out evaluation, prepare/issue Subcontracts and provide commercial support during live Subcontracts.
  • To liaise with the Project Teams and provision of commercial advice with regards to Prime and Subcontract issues and reporting during Contract execution.
  • To assist and maintain the commercial point of contact to stakeholders both internally and externally together with the provision of commercial representation at meetings.
  • To liaise with internal and external Stakeholders and Subcontractors for New Engineering Contract (NEC) requirements, work individually and as part of the team to support continuous improvement as part of their daily activities.
  • Raising, managing and close out of purchase orders onto the Information Financial System (IFS) primarily for Business Unit and Project Specific activities.
  • Review payment applications, reconcile timesheets and identify, monitor and manage discrepancies until resolved.
What do I need to do the roleYou will have experience in a similar commercial management role, encompassing contract administration, liaison with the supply chain and knowledge of NEC contracts.We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:
  • Broad knowledge of building and construction
  • Literate in IT applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook)
  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent in a subject related to Quantity Surveying, building, business, business law or commercial law.
Exposure to MoD contractual terms and conditions is also highly desirable, but not essentialWhat else do I need to know
  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving Security Check (SC) clearance.
