Job Title: Analytical ChemistLocation: Devonport, Plymouth, PL1 4SGCompensation: £37,908 + pension (matched up to 8%) + 25 days holidayRole Type: Full Time / Permanent Job ID: SF43345We have a new opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our team at Babcock, in Devonport. Working within the chemistry and reactor chemistry departments you will help supply scientific support services to all departments and vessels within HMNB Devonport,and on occasion to external customers. This role is full time and will involve working as part of a small team within a radiologically controlled environment. This will include a significant amount of shift work.Who we are looking forAs an Analytical Chemist, we are looking for you to ideally have laboratory experience, however this is not essential. You will have a keen desire and willingness to learn new skills, work with minimal supervision, and have good attention to detail. Ideallyyou will have experience in a number of analytical techniques including, HPLC and ICP. A knowledge of gamma spectroscopy and liquid scintillation techniques would be advantageous.This role is well suited to you if you are a driven chemistry graduate, or if you have similar equivalent experience, and has excellent opportunities for career development.What will you be doingThe key tasks of the role include, but are not limited to, various chemical and radio-chemical analysis and instrumental analytical techniques, safety critical testing of atmospheres for work in confined spaces and supplying a calibration service.Whilst the primary requirement is for shift working in the reactor chemistry section the successful candidate will be expected to, on occasion, work in other chemistry departments. You will be required to go onboard numerous vessels and submarines which areaccessed via vertical ladders. The experience youll bring * Relevant level 6 qualification (degree) or significant experience in a scientific discipline and a level 4 qualification. OR* Considerable experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory and academic or vocational qualification in an appropriate scientific subject.You will need to satisfy security requirements.
