Job Description

Peterborough Cathedral is one of the finest Norman cathedrals in England. Founded as a monastic community in 654 AD, it became one of the most significant medieval abbeys in the country, the burial place of two queens and the scene of Civil War upheavals.Today the Cathedral is the most significant building in a diverse and growing city, a tourist destination and a venue for exhibitions, cultural events, meetings and receptions. At its heart it remains, what it has always been, a place of Christian prayerand worship, of ministry and mission; the Mother Church of the Diocese of Peterborough and the seat of the Bishop of Peterborough and all its other activities contribute to or are part of that wider purpose that is spelt out most fully in the Cathedralsvision and values document published in 2019 and found on our website.Raising capital and operational funds from Trusts and grant giving bodies is key to the on-going survival of the Cathedral and its mission, which includes the upkeep and maintenance of the Cathedral building, (Grade 1 Listed) and its estate. To enable thewidest opportunity for grant and trust applications, funds are directed through Peterborough Cathedral Developm ent and Preservation Trust CIO, while strategy and employee management is driven by the Cathedrals governing body, Chapter.Chapter is seeking to appoint a part-time (0.6FTE) fundraiser who will have specific responsibility for identifying opportunities and raising capital and operational funds from trusts and grant giving bodies.The creation of this new role gives an exciting opportunity for a professional, motivated and energetic self-starter to identify and successfully bid for grants that will enable to completion of capital projects or underpin the operational costs of the Cathedral.The successful candidate will play a significant part in the Cathedrals sustainability moving forwards, working alongside the Fundraising Development Manager and in collaboration with relevant colleagues and the Executive Team, as required. Previous experiencein a similar not for profit environment is desirable.   • Research donor prospects, including individuals, Trusts and Foundations and Corporations
  • Bid writing for capital projects and/or operational costs as identified through the Cathedrals fundraising strategy
  • Support for major donor activity where required
  • Regular contact with potential grant making bodies
  • Donor stewardship at all levels
Person specificationSkills and Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills appropriate to this outward-facing role and its need to communicate effectively with colleagues and potential trusts and grant making bodies
  • Previous successful bid writing experience is essential
  • Proficiency in using a fundraising database
  • Educate to Degree level or equivalent (highly desirable)
  • Have a broad education that includes GCSE Maths and EnglishLanguage (or equivalent)
  • Excellent proficiency in general office computer software, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and internet systems
  • Confidence in presenting to individual and group audiences
Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience in not-for-profit or other fundraising environment (minimum three years)
  • A good grasp of the broader fundraising environment and best practice
Abilities, Skills and Attributes
  • Ability to build working relationships with individual and corporate donors and colleagues, to work across operational boundaries and to work as a memberof a team

Terms & ConditionsEmployment: PermanentSalary: £16,200 pa (£27,000 FTE)Hours: This is a 0.6FTE role working 22.5 hours per week. Given the nature of the post there is also the requirement of evening and weekend work attending organised functions andevents as directed, for which time off in lieu is applicable.Further information and how to apply:Please apply using the application form.
