Job Description

Electronics & Control Systems EngineerPhotocentric Ltd is a rapidly growing manufacturers based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and Phoenix, USA. Three times Queens Award winners one for export and twice for innovation. We manufacture our own 3D printers and resins and exportall over the world. We have embarked on some exciting business partnerships which have rapidly changed the direction of our business. Due to this growth we are now recruiting for a new position for an Electronics and Control Systems Engineer.Control Systems are at the heart of our 3D printers. These systems involve the interactions and timings between LCD screens, mechanical motion, electronic systems and sensors. This Electronics & Control Systems Engineer role requires a systems designer/engineer who has experience working with other engineers from a variety of disciplinesespecially where single board computers, microcontrollers, motion and softwarecome together to form a system.Skills required of our Electronics and Control Systems Engineer:

  • Have the experience to authoritatively define and implement complex electro-mechanical control systems that involve precise motion and ideally also have experience in microcontrollers and screen control. Experience can be from 3d printing, medical devicesor general machine design such as small CNC machine tools, machines with motion and sensors, automotive subsystems or robotic systems.
  • Have the personality to work well within a multidisciplinary technical (and also non-technical) teams and make a convincing case for their designs based on their systems analysis.
  • As well as control system design, this role also requires someone who can develop test strategies, the tests themselves and validate the whole of a 3D printer control system, including adding instrumentation and building test harnesses when necessary.
  • Be capable of or giving advice on making make/buy decisions and work with engineers to select components.
  • Control system analysis and architecture and to be able to confidently explain decisions.
  • Define system modules, sub- modules and interactions, using standard components where possible and design specialised components when needed.
  • Be able to incorporate test strategies and implement into components from the start.
  • Experience designing electronics from schematics through to PCB layout, familiarity with Electronics CAD software like Fusion360, Eagle and KiCAD.
  • Previous experience delivering PCB designs for manufacture in 10s100s volume production runs.
  • Capable of debugging electronics and electro-mechanical systems.
Experience require by ourElectronics & Control Systems Engineer:
  • 3 years minimum as a Control Systems engineer working on commercial small to medium sized machines
  • Embedded software experience for Single board computers, microcontrollers, Mechatronics systems
  • Be able to analyse existing electro-mechanical systems for issues and be capable of developing new control systems in the future
  • Comfortable integrating sensors, testing and performing analysis to iron out issues
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Control systems theory and apply it to practical commercial systems. Be able to explain the theoretical tools to engineers
  • Some programming skills in Python, C#, C++, Embedded C
  • Some VHDL and Varilog experience would be beneficial but not essential
  • Degree in Control Systems Engineering or similar. Post Grad, MSc/MEng or PhD if can demonstrate commercial development experience
