Job Profile Summarybp Trading & Shipping (T&S) is bps energy trading division, responsible for the physical and financial trading of oil, refined products, biofuels, gas, power, LNG and low carbon fuels. It is a friendly, exciting and dynamic organisation,and is bps face to the traded markets.We wish to recruit a lawyer with experience in financing and/or commodity derivatives to join our legal team supporting Refining & Products Trading - Europe & Africa (which focusses on trading oil, refined products andbiofuels). This includes the Marketing & Origination (who negotiate long term structured deals) and Structured Products teams (who provide risk management products to clients as part of day-to-day business and larger transactions including physical commodityand financial instruments).Job AdvertAbout the job:The successful candidate will have experience in financing transactions (for example, prepayments, pre-export finance, reserve-based lending, acquisition finance or project finance) and/or commodity derivatives.Be part of a diverse team, with the expectation that over time youll gain experience advising across a number of the teams other areas of accountability, including:Day-to-day support for the operational aspects of physical commodity trading, including shipping,quantity and quality claims, demurrage, non-performance and other contractual issues;Lower carbon activities, such as biofuels, circular economy and emission reduction projects;Term deals for supply and purchase contracts of oil and refined products;Disputes;Newtechnologies, such as supporting blockchain ventures;Trade finance, such as receivables discounting;Joint ventures, storage arrangements and new country access;Anti-bribery and corruption, trade sanctions and competition law issues; andFinancial services regulation(although we have specific team members who lead in this area).The individual will primarily support the Marketing & Origination team in BPs trading business.Further accountability will include providing broad commercial legal advice as necessary, workingclosely with traders and support functions including Credit, Tax, Treasury, Compliance and the Contracts team.About you:Qualified lawyerExperience advising on financing transactions and/or commodity derivatives in private practice or in-house at a bank, tradinghouse or energy company.Strong interpersonal skillscapable of adopting a variety of styles to interact with clients on the trading floor and senior management to achieve the desired result.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to workboth autonomously and as a team player working in a global function.Strong problem-solving skills, with the creativity to propose different options and build consensus.Show integrity, courage and sound ethical judgment.Experience of structured deals combiningfinance, offtakes and hedging would be an advantage.Understanding of relevant regulatory context, such as MifiD II.EntityLegalJob Family GroupLegal GroupRelocation availableNoTravel requiredNegligible travelTime TypeFull timeCountryUnited KingdomAbout BPLEGALJoinus and become a trusted advisor delivering legal support to the group focused on material risk, value and growth, protecting ourselves and enabling the realisation of our purpose, strategy, ambition and aims.Together we will achieve this by: providingprofessional legal advice and counsel to the entities we support leading and co-ordinating the identification and management of legal risks developing a highly skilled, progressive and diverse legal team supporting the entities in the delivery of theiraccountabilities living the bp code and being role models of our values and behavioursLegal disclaimerWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
