Job Description

Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.SAC Consulting, a division of SRUC are currently seeking a Senior Consultant (Ecologist) to join the specialist consulting Environment team. The main purposes of this role are:

  1. to provide expert ecological input into public, private and third sector client work carried out by SAC Consulting
  2. to lead the development of ecological skills and knowledge of colleagues across SAC Consulting
  3. to work with the Consultant (Ecology) to help establish closer working relationships between colleagues in SAC Consulting and SRUC in the delivery of ecological projects.
The job holder will work closely with colleagues from across the Food & Footprint business area (encompassing the Environment Team, the Forestry & Woodlands Team, and Food & Enterprise Team) and the wider business (including regionally focussed ConservationConsultants and key researchers and teaching colleagues in the wider SRUC). They will lead this work, inspiring through their knowledge, values and ways of working. They will drive an increase in the amount of ecological work done by SAC Consulting, both directlyby them and their wider team, but also by colleagues across the business. They will be instrumental in helping SAC Consulting become an organisation that sees ecology as a fundamental part of what it does.Key elements of the role will include: national public sector natural capital projects; peatland restoration; development of tailored guidance for colleagues and land managers; environmental impact assessment related work for infrastructure projects; policysupport for research and consulting colleagues and public sector clients; and internal training of conservation and general consultancy colleagues; providing specialist input to tenders and marketing material to highlight SAC Consultings capabilities relatingto ecology.Reporting to the Principal Consultant (Head of Environment Team), the job-holder will line manage one Consultant (Ecology) and will indirectly guide and oversee (although not line manage) the work of four conservation consultants. As the lead ecologicalexpert within SAC Consulting, the jobholder will significantly influence the quality of work that SAC Consulting undertakes. In time, as more work develops in this area, it is expected that the jobholder will line manage a larger number of consultant ecologists.Further details on the requirements of this role can be found in the Job Particulars document which you must read before applying for this role.
