The Carcass Evaluation Unit is a highly specialised and dynamic facility that processespoultry using advanced production techniques and captures and delivers high quality reproducible data to our commercial client. In this role you shall manage all of the day-to-day operations of our busy production line, you should therefore be a confidentand skilled manager with proven track record of managing people and a desire to deliver a top-line service. The ideal candidate for this role will have a proven background in this sector and will also have a good level of commercial understanding of this typeof operation. Key elements of the role will also include responsibility for Health and Safety within the plant, Food Standard Agency interactions and contact with Environmental Health and SEPA.The Poultry/Carcass Evaluation Unit sits within the Physical Services section of SRUC, as such the Plant Manager will have exciting opportunities to directly engage and share knowledge with other service area managers from areas such as Field/Crop Trialsand our Labs.Duties of the Carcass/Poultry Evaluation Unit Manager include the management of poultry welfare, cost control and processing, and input into plant maintenance.This will include but is not limited to:- Managing the day-to-day operations of the Carcase Evaluation Plant and the staff contained therein. - Co-ordinate accurate staff scheduling to allow for efficient and effective data collection and poultry processing to be carried out. - Assume direct responsibility for ensuring exacting performance criteria are met or exceeded in the priority collection of accurate and repeatable scientific data for the commercial clients of the plant. - Ensuring the production of safe wholesome poultry meat destined for sale on the public market.- Management of operations to ensure that production efficiency is being optimised to ensure re-sale is optimised from meat and associated by-products. - Deal with regulatory bodies both during the day-to-day operations as well as during announced and un-announced audits.- Interact competently and professionally with all clients of the plant during visits, day-to-day communications, and review meetings.- Ability to comply with various EU & domestic legislative requirements. Including but not limited to: Health & Safety Legislation Food Hygiene Legislation Animal Welfare Legislation By-Products Legislation Wrapping & Packaging Legislation Employment Law awareness- Create and lead the team and plant through the process of attaining various accreditation schemes and maintaining these through frequent internal and external audits.- Using technology provided to capture and collate scientific data on behalf of all clients, and proactively consider novel opportunities that the CEU may be able to deliver for internal and external clients.- Motivate, train and develop staff in an on the job setting with adherence to pre-determined specifications.- Responsibility for working with the plants Technical Co-Ordinator to schedule maintenance, both pro-active and re-active, throughout the plant.- Lead and maintain adherence to good hygienic practices.- Knowledge and experience of developing and following standard protocols, e.g. HACCP plans and systems, SOPs, etc.- Cost control and financial awareness including some budgetary responsibilities. - Liaise with SRUC meat sales officer to assist maximising economic return from saleable produce.Further details on the requirements of this role can be found in the Job Particulars document which you must read before applying for this role.
