Fixed term Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Acute Medicine (maternity leave cover for 12 months, 5PAs)Ref: 290-LCONA552This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant to join the Endocrinology and Diabetes team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The post is to cover maternity leave from 1st May 2021 for 12 months. The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of our comprehensive secondary care services with a focus on type 1 diabetes and technologies (pump and continuous glucose monitoring), metabolic and endocrine clinics, transition diabetes, and young adult diabetes. The acute medicine rota consists of ten day blocks where the post holder is dedicated to in-patient care for the Diabetes and Endocrine team covering one ten day slot per month. The firm is on-call 1 in 5 days with consultant presence required until 20:00 on on-call days. The post holder will be attached to acute medicine/ in-patient care for approximately 15% of the time and spend the rest of their time in specialty care delivery.Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a tertiary endocrine and diabetes care centre, and a member of the North West London Diabetes CRG. It provides care to an estimated 1500 people living with type 1 diabetes and we aim to support and empower these individuals to self-manage their condition and live well. The Imperial Type 1 Diabetes Enhanced Services team (T1DES) was created in 2017 to address the need for more expert healthcare professionals delivering care in type 1 diabetes. As per Get It Right First Time (GIRFT) recommendations, we have been an accredited DAFNE centre since 2017 and provide joint young adult and antenatal services to support people with diabetes at different points in life. We have a dedicated diabetes technology service and offer continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII, insulin pump therapy), real time continuous glucose monitoring (RT-CGM) and flash glucose monitoring in line with NICE and NHS England recommendations. The rapid progression in diabetes technology being brought to market means that we are also facilitating the transition to sensor augmented pump therapy and hybrid closed loop systems as soon as possible for those it would benefit. We recently created a new type 1 diabetes educator post to be able to increase capacity to support those who need more time to optimise glycaemic control, minimise waiting times to getting diabetes technology initiated, support the development of team members and provide additional structured education. There is opportunity to work with colleagues in leading the department’s expanding maternity diabetes service and support inpatient diabetes care, with a specific focus on diabetes technologies, with scope to promote the post holder’s sub-speciality interest in this growing specialty field. We aim to build a high quality clinical service by bringing new skills into the Diabetes & Endocrine centre and promoting learning and development. The successful applicant will be a committed to supporting an already successful high functioning department.Closing Date: 1st March 2021For further details / informal visits contact:For further details or to discuss the post contact:Dr Vassiliki Bravis - Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology;Dr Monika Reddy - Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology;Secretaries: and
