The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of skilled and highly motivated staff who provide high quality care to children with a variety of conditions including medical, surgical, trauma, orthopaedics, plastics and ENT. St Mary’s Hospital is a designated children’s and adult major trauma centre with a dedicated 24/7 children’s emergency department.Staff are supported by a thorough induction programme which is both classroom and ward based and includes supernumerary time to ensure staff are fully prepared for working in an intensive care environment. We also offer continuing educational and professional development from our education team. We are committed to ensuring that all staff have a positive work experience which enables and supports them to provide the best possible care for the children and families.About UsWe have undergone an exciting multi-million pound expansion and refurbishment of our Children’s Intensive Care it has seen our bed capacity almost double in capacity from eight to fifteen beds. Every year around 400 critically ill children are admitted to our unit. Around 30 per cent come from the local Northwest London catchment area; the remainder are transferred by Children’s Acute Transport Service.Our fifteen bedded Children’s Intensive Care Unit provides both intensive and high dependency care for children with a wide variety of different conditions and specialities. Some of these include specialist haematology/BMT, infectious diseases, respiratory, allergy, ENT, trauma and a broad range of medical and surgical diagnoses. We serve both our local population receiving patients through our A+E and wards as well as being a tertiary referral centre receiving patients from other NHS Trusts through a dedicated paediatric retrieval service.We take pride in our close working relationship with the Paediatric wards, Paediatric Emergency Department and Children’s Community Nursing Teams.
