Job Description

BSL Teacher Assistant Required in OrpingtonProspero Teaching are currently recruiting for a British Sign Language (BSL) teacher to join a "Ofsted-rated Good" special school in the Southeast London areas who specialise in children with SLD and Additional Complex Needs including Severe Autism. Classsize will be between 10 - 20 and there will be additional classroom support which will be available in the form of experienced Teaching Assistants, Healthcare Assistantsand Nurses.Daily Rate: VariableLocation: 1 Position: Orpington - Southeast LondonContract Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, Long TermStart Date: Immediate (March 2023)The successful applicants will have:

  • QTS or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with SLD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Complex Needs and/or Physical/Mental/Sensory Impairments
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff and parents/careers
  • Hold an enhanced Child or Child & Adult barred list DBS certificate
The role will consist of:
  • Teaching to a class of varying needs including varied types of communication (non-verbal & Physical) - semi-formal curriculum
  • Work closely with students, their parents/careers and other members of staff to make sure that the students are happy and learning well
  • Adapting the syllabus according to the individual students EHCP
  • Make appropriate use of a range of monitoring and assessment strategies to evaluate pupils progress
