Specialty Doctor – Male Acute Psychiatry Up to £90,000 per annumTaunton, TA3 7BQ19 December 2020Are you a Specialty Doctor looking for your next challengeGive your career a positive change with an exciting opportunity which has become available at Cygnet Hospital Taunton to cover our Acute Male Services. We are recruiting for a Specialty Doctor to start, working Monday - Friday 09.00 - 17.00 (1:5 on call included in salary).Cygnet Hospital Taunton acute inpatient admissions service for men over the age of 18. The hospital also provides specialist inpatient services for older adults with mental health problems and for men diagnosed with a learning disability.The Opportunity...As a Specialty Doctor you will have clinical responsibility patients under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist within the acute adult psychiatric wards. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for working age men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.You will work as part of a close-knit and caring team to include; Allied Health Professionals, Psychology, Management, Nursing and Support Staff.In this role, you will carry out mental state examination of newly admitted patients along with assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. You will be confident in assessing a wide range of psychiatric disorders alongside a supportive multi-disciplinary team.You will participate in weekly Ward Rounds and in other multidisciplinary meetings, including Section 117 meetings, Care Programme Approach Meetings (CPA’s), and Mental Health Tribunals (MHT’s), ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned.Are you the successful candidate we are looking for

  • Full GMC registration and an MBBS (or equivalent) medical qualification
  • Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
  • The ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgment / experience in making clinical decision and managing risk and knows when to seek help
  • Excellent verbal / written communication skills along with the ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes
  • Proven record of CPD (Continued Professional Development)
  • The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Desirable: Section 12
  • Desirable: Royal College of Psychiatrists membership (MRCPsych) or equivalent
