Job Description

Northern Care Alliance (NCA) Microbiology is looking to appoint a Consultant Microbiologist to join the team based in the state of the art Pathology laboratories located on the Royal Oldham Hospital site.The NCA is made up of Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, with central service laboratories at the Salford Royal and Royal Oldham sites. Across the NCA there is an establishment of 14 Consultants: 8 at Pathology at Wigan and Salford (PAWS) and 6 at Pennine Acute Hospitals (including 1 virologist with a second virology post approved). Both laboratories provide supervision for Specialty Trainees and both laboratories are accredited to UKAS ISO 15189;2012 Each consultant has access to a full support team. There is a single merged on call rota for the NCA/PAWS and is anticipated that in the future duties could include work based at any of the sites within the network.The post includes some Infection Control Doctor responsibilities, shared with colleagues, providing an opportunity to help develop further the Infection Control Service for the NCA. You will be on the Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). The post is suitable for applicants holding a CCT or equivalent in Medical Microbiology or Infectious Diseases.This post provides an excellent opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams from a range of specialties. You will be someone who can create great relationships quickly and be adept at utilising the skills of colleagues from other specialties within the organization and the community to provide a fully holistic approach to patient care. You will be someone who remains calm under pressure, with an ability to take charge when needed with an encouraging and supportive approach. Your attention to detail and clear passion for delivering an efficient, high quality service will mean that you stand out from the crowd.
