Job Description

You will join us as a HR Advisor and will support the HR Business Partners in the provision of a high-level professional Human Resources (HR) service to designated areas to support the delivery of business plans. Tofully understand the business and support them in developing an engaging and positive culture and improving service quality and student experience.HR Advisor Responsibilities:

  • Act as a first point of contact in providing proactive, professional HR advice to managers and staff across the organisation, supporting managers in using effective management practices. This will include conduct and performance management, grievances,sickness and other absence in accordance with organisational policies, current legislation and other professional standards.
  • Manage an employee relations caseload in an advisory capacity ensuring they are handled appropriately and in a timely fashion; including prioritising work and follow-up tasks on a daily and ongoing basis, working with the Investigating Manager and otherkey stakeholders to identify and manage changing priorities
  • Advise managers on the interpretation and application of HR Policies and procedures, Terms and Conditions of Employment, employment legislation and case law.
  • Support and advise managers with employee discipline, grievance, capability, bullying or harassment situations, including meetings and/or interviews with managers and employees, advising on the conduct of formal investigations and the preparation and contentof investigation reports. This will include assisting investigating officers with investigations as appropriate and, supporting and advising managers with decision making during formal and informal meetings with staff members and their representatives as required.
  • Attend grievance, disciplinary and capability hearings to advise managers, employees and unions on due process and appropriate decisions and sanctions. Ensure proper records are maintained.
  • Provide managers with proactive advice and support in recruitment and selection of permanent and temporary employees, through the adoption of good employment practice in line with policy and legislation. including attending shortlisting panels and interviewsas assistant to the expert adviser
HR Advisor Requirements:Essential
  • Diploma or equivalent vocational/professional qualification (at level 5) or equivalent level of knowledge or experience
  • Graduate member of CIPD
  • Literacy and Numeracy qualifications to at least Level 2 or equivalent
  • HR advisory experience at an appropriate level demonstrating continuous self-development through involvement in work including: employee relations, absence management, current employment legislation, providing initial advice on case management, referringto relevant policies and procedures where required, interpreting and understanding policies and procedures, processing and administration of core HR information using HR information systems
  • Experience of coaching and supporting managers
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of HR policies, procedures and best practice and their application
  • Experience of working with computerised HR/Payroll systems
  • Experience of maintaining strict confidentiality
Desirable
  • Experience of manging employee relations in a unionised environment
  • Experience of developing and delivering HR skills training to managers
  • Ability to manipulate and analyse data from computerise HR/Payroll information systems
  • Understanding of change management in multi unionised and split site environment
  • Knowledge of data protection requirements
