Job Description

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract to 31 March 2024Do you enjoy helping people to find the right solutions at the right time Role SnapshotIt is a very exciting and challenging time to come and join our People and Communities team.We are looking for a handyperson who can support two of our services within the South Norfolk Council and Broadland District Council areas: The Sanctuary Target Hardening Service and the Independent Living Handyperson Service.The Sanctuary Target Hardening service is being developed to support the needs of victim/survivors of domestic abuse who wish to remain in their own home, when safe to do so. Target hardening is the term used to install additional, bespoke security measuresto the home of a person at risk of domestic abuse.The post holder will receive referrals from a variety of sources, both internal and external, and coordinate an individual package of target hardening measures with the victim survivor in their own home. You will then work with the landlord to install targethardening equipment, such as new window and door locks, reinforcing bars and other security measures. Record keeping and the provision of statistical returns forms a key element of this role.Target hardening training will be provided to the successful applicant via the Level 3 Police Crime Prevention Academy training course.The Independent Living Handyperson service provides basic maintenance and low-level adaptations to reduce the risks of trips and falls in the home (e.g., installing grab rails, key safes, and fire alarms). This vital service to residents helps to promoteindependent living.   • Promote and develop the Sanctuary service in both South Norfolk Council and Broadland District Council areas.
  • Provide support, advice, and assistance to victim/survivors of domestic abuse and their families who have experienced domestic abuse or are at risk of domestic abuse and wish to remain in their own home.
  • Provide a risk assessment and advice in relation to enhanced security at a victim/survivors home using agreed target hardening measures and the provision of safety equipment.
  • Monitor and evaluate the Scheme and report to various key stakeholders
  • Provide feedback from victim/survivors who have used the Sanctuary Scheme and recommend actions (including monitoring completion).
  • Provide a follow-up of 6 months for works/well-being of the victim-survivor.
  • Complete assessments for each customers target hardening requirements.
  • Manage a caseload, maintain manual and electronic customer records, and ensure there is a comprehensive record of all client contacts and outcomes including assessments and mitigation of risk.
  • Complete low-level adaptions to the homes of non-domestic abuse customers to prevent trips and falls, thus allowing them to remain in their homes.
  • Conduct other low level maintenance services as directed by a manager
You must have
  • Previous experience in maintenance and/or home improvement work.
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including Maths and English) or the ability to demonstrate ability at this level.
  • Relevant BTEC, NVQ or City & Guilds qualification.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
