We have a great opportunity for a Highways - Senior Engineer.About the projectThe M6 between junctions 21a and 26 is a key strategic route carrying around 120,000 vehicles daily between Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, and Greater Manchester. Congestion and unreliable journey times are currently experienced at busy periods and traffic is predicted to grow. The scheme will relieve congestion and smooth the flow of traffic, improving safety and journey times.The Smart motorway solution is a technology-driven approach to tackling the most congested parts of the motorway network, improving journey reliability by controlling the flow and speed of traffic. They also support the economy by providing much-needed capacity on the busiest motorways, while maintaining safety for road users and those who work on the roads.The design features of the scheme include:·Variable mandatory speed limits·Driver information, including lane availability, provided through a mixture of gantries and cantilever signs·Queue detection and automatic signalling system, which provides queue protection and congestion management·Comprehensive low light pan-tilt-zoom CCTV coverage·Refuge areas where drivers can stop in an emergencyKey Responsibilities:·Supervise the works to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained·In conjunction with the engineers and surveyors ensure all setting out is present and correct before work starts·Ensure all RAMS are in place prior to works commencing·Ensure ITPs and MARs are in place prior to works commencing·In conjunction with the discipline Supervisor ensure that plant, labour and materials for each item of work are identified and available in good time·Review the drawings and specification to identify errors and omissions and bring these to the attention of the project team via TQ’s·Be fully conversant with supply chain contract conditions and the attendances from Costain·Maintain program and identify opportunities·Record resources and monitor outputs against program·Communicate with the project team, issues of non-conformances and contractual correspondence, maintaining comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works·Keep a full and accurate daily diary, including any changes / variations, specialist attendancesAbout you:·Civil Engineering related qualification (HNC, HND, BSc MSc, BEng, MEng)·Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering infrastructure projects·Construction Skills Certification Scheme CSCS, SMSTS preferable·Other relevant training (preferred includes Appointed Person, relevant lifting training and temporary works co-ordination) to be listed on CV·Good written and oral communication skills·The ability to manage and control tasks·Knowledge of construction contracts and forms of contract through formal training.·Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Primavera software).·Successful experience at a Site Engineer level.·Willing to mentor and develop junior staffExperience in some or all of the following:·Structures & Highways delivery in logistically challenging environments including earthworks, drainage, sheet piling, safety fencing, structures delivery, surfacing and associated temporary works·Basic autocad skills preferable but not a necessity
