Job Description

  • Laboratory Technician
  • Newport
  • £9.50/hour whilst training
  • £11.80 - £14.16 once trained (approx 6 weeks)
  • Monday to Friday days whilst training then rotating weekly between days/nights.
  • Start in January 2023
The Recruitment Co. Newport has an amazing opportunity for a long term temporary assignment for a Laboratory Technician working with our prestigious Client in Newport Docks.Job Specification:Basic hoursMon-FriDay Shift 09:00 to 17:00Night shift 22:00 to 06:001 week days followed by 1 week of nights.Quality Control testing & reporting of bituminous materials based at Newport terminal laboratory.Testing includes:
  • Handling of hot materials (180C)
  • Accurate timings
  • Careful conditioning
  • Precision testing
  • Cleaning
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Reporting
  • Sample logging storage.
  • Checking and calibration of equipment.
Person requirements:For Health & Safety reasons you will need to be 18 years of age at least, i.e. for Lone working at unsociable hours.
  • Basic education: Maths, English and Science at GCSE level.
  • Organised and self starter
  • Can plan their own time.
  • Analytical / logical mind
  • Eye for detail
  • Strong Health and Safety bias
  • High standards of house keeping essential
  • Can communicate effectively over the phone, by email and in person.
  • Good team working skills with the technical and Newport site staff.
  • Neat / tidy written records
  • Care/accuracy needed for intricate testing.
  • Good, basic IT knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Flexible approach.
  • No experience in bitumen needed as training will be provided.
