Job Description

The OpportunityWe are working with an award winning national software product business who have developed a suite of products that support a global customer base. They have an excellent company culture, working as a team to deliver cutting edge solutions using a modern techstack and approach.We are recruiting for a Software Development Manager. This is a new role in the business and the focus will be to support the Head of Engineering with their people and delivery management responsibilities, the business have ambitious growth goals for 2023.You will not be hands on however are likely to have a background in software development and your role will be to take on coaching & mentoring of the development teams, managing appraisals, 1-2-1s, career development plans, performance review and aspects ofresource planning and delivery. Working closely with the technical leads you should understand what engineering best practice looks like and be to hold the developers to account.From a delivery perspective youll be running sprint planning, daily stand ups, helping to prioritise work and detailing next steps to the developersThe client is based in the centre of Newcastle and ideally candidates would be able to spend 1-2 days per week in the office however this is not essential.Do you have the following

  • Experience leading a team to deliver large projects on time and on-budget
  • Experience or exposure to line management (121s, career progression planning etc)
  • An understanding of development principals such as SOLID
  • Delivery using agile methodologies
  • Have worked in an environment that promoted continuous improvement processes.
  • Ideally youll have managed people and have the communication skills and empathy required to successfully coach/mentor in order to improve performance.
