Job Description

Playing akey role in maintaining and improving the quality of policing services is technology. Information and communication systems are deployed and in use across the Force to help ensure that accurate and reliable information is made available to those who need it,when they need it and where they need it.Agile working patterns apply to this position where informal agile working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.What do I need

  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification, and/or have relevant experience
  • Excellent communication and team working skills
  • Good technical skills and experience in the full Software Development Lifecycle
  • Recent experience in Java development language
  • Experience in RESTful Web Services, Apache Tomcat, JavaScript, HTML and CSS for user interface development, XML and JSON for data exchange and Oracle or SQL Server Databases
  • Some commercial experience in Java as well as in Java Spring Framework
  • Commercial experience of Hibernate/JPA for database access and the jQuery JavaScript library for user interface development would be beneficial, not essential.
The Role:Would you like to further develop your experience of Java, Web and back-end development Would you like to play a key role in serving your community through the development of exciting new technology that will support our police officers and staff to deliveran outstanding policing serviceIf so, Northumbria Police is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Java Developer to work alongside a small team of Senior Java Developers in the delivery and support of an exciting programme of technical change.As a Java Developer, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your excellent problem-solving skills and your system development experience using an agile delivery methodology, and with a combination of experience and training progress to a Senior JavaDeveloper.What will I be doingYou will be working alongside Senior Java Developers to support the effective running and maintenance of existing applications as well as helping to develop new applications, utilising your knowledge and expertise in Java, Web and back-end development.You will work with end users and affiliated stakeholders to understand the challenges that are being experienced to ensure any solution or fix delivered contributes to an efficient and effective policing service.Terms and ConditionsVetting Level - Recruitment Vetting (RV)Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.
