Job Description

Summary Following the promotion of a member of our team we are recruiting a Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor to join our Estate Management Team based in the North East. Your work will support the management of our diverse let estate and provide technicaladvice and support on land and property management to our General Managers.Youll be passionate about conservation and combine this with strong technical knowledge and an entrepreneurial approach to rural surveying. Managing change in the rural landscape is a central focus within the National Trust and your colleagues will lookto you for up to the minute advice and guidance.Face to face interviews will be held week commencing 7th November at our Wallington Estate, near Morpeth. We are able to offer remote interviews for those who live outside of the area but would like to apply.We expect to appoint at around £40,000 as a starting salary.If you would like to discuss the role, please contact our Senior Estate Manager, Judy Richmond: .uk What its like to work here In this role youll be working on our extensive portfolio in Northumberland. This includes the traditional Estate of Wallington, where we are embarking on a landscape scale project to deliver better outcomes for nature with our farmtenants and which includes an estate village; stunning stretches of the Northumberland coast; our Hadrians Wall and Tyne Valley estate and our Gibside property.Youll be involved in interesting rural surveying work that will shape the future of the UKs biggest private landowner.Youll be joining a team of 18, half of whom are based in the North East (the rest are based in Yorkshire), including Estate Managers, Building Surveyors, Building Supervisors and Estate Management Officers. Youll work closely with property-based colleagues(your clients) and national colleagues. What youll be doing Youll be involved in a wide range of work which is likely to include work on agricultural tenancies and agri-environmental schemes, residential and commercial lettings, woodland management, access rights and boundary issues, valuationsand occasional acquisitions and disposals. As part of the Estate Management team, youll bring a range of skills to ensure we safeguard and manage our land and buildings to best deliver National Trust objectives. You will build on the important relationships we have with our tenants and bring insightfuladvice and considerate stakeholder management as well as forward thinking approaches to managing and conserving our land and buildings.Please also read the full role profile attached to this advert. Who were looking for Wed love to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:

  • A good knowledge of land use, agriculture, asset management, land management, environmental issues, conservation and sustainable development and understand how this translates into National Trust Strategy
  • A member of the RICS (Rural Practice) - though we will consider applications from those qualifying this year
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to communicate effectively both in person and in writing, enabling you to influence and negotiate
  • The ability to analyse, interpret and resolve rural surveying problems using technical knowledge to implement workable solutions
  • Strong demonstrable consulting skills of listening, building trust and acting to deliver a high-quality service
  • The ability to work as part of a team to achieve the best results, demonstrating best practice and sharing ideas and thinking.
