Job Description

Our Clients Building Efficiency Division delivers products, services and solutions that increase energy efficiency and lower operating costs in buildings for more than one million customers worldwide. They are a leading provider of equipment, controls andservices for heating, ventilating, air-conditioning (HVAC) and security systems. The UK&I Major Projects Team delivers innovative solutions to a wide customer base across all industry segments for HVAC, chillers, industrial refrigeration, controls and mechanical& electrical works.They are now recruiting for an experienced BMS PROJECT DIRECTOR to lead a fast paced, industry leading multi - £million project in the North-East of England. The successful candidate for the role will be responsible for all aspects of the delivery of thisproject, with responsibility for all delivery functions from design, engineering, installation & commissioning teams, plus commercial and PMO functions. This is a varied role, that will offer a different working day one to the next, working on a flagship projectfor the UK construction industry, working directly for the principal contractor.Job Title: BMS PROJECT DIRECTORReporting to: PROJECT OPERATIONS LEADER UK&IKey responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintains relationships with customers, suppliers and vendors.
  • Undertake a sales handover to interpret and understand the scope of works and then filter through to the necessary project team, managing resource expecations.
  • Overall responsibility for the health, safety and environmental management of all personnel within your project team.
  • Provide direction, control and implementation of projects to a high standard.
  • Make criticial strategic decisions on the project, managing budget, time and resource requirements as the programme develops.
  • Working alongside the commercial team, assume responsibility for the commercial performance of the project ensuring the preparation and submission of payment applications, preparation and submission of variations, and agreement of the same, clear definitionof scope and subcontractor commercial management.
  • Monitor, review and report on the progress of all projects, progress, delays and resourcing requirements to the customer, project operations leader, and other support staff as necessary. Drive standardisation throughout the organisation, ensuring projectdocumentation is consistent, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and implementation of best practices.
  • Engage with Supply Chain & Subcontract organisations, negotiating third party contracts, managing project quality and commercial accounts, whilst forecasting business pipeline.
  • Provide regular reports to project leadership, including monthly forecasts, cost to completes, lessons learnt and observations.
  • Continually undertake risk reviews, proactively engaging with the project team and subcontractors to mitigate project risk and manage expectations.
  • Mitigate project peaks through innovative management, including maximisation of DfMA process and offsite engineering & testing strategies.
  • Participate in project meetings, including any handover required to client and service teams.
  • Maintains relevant professional certifications and licenses (e.g., SMSTS / First Aid at Work / IOSH).

  • Ideally minimum 10 Years project management experience in the construction industry, with experience in BMS and control systems, and M&E knowledge.
  • Ability to manage and influence both internal & external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellency in verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word & Project.
  • Experience working on large projects, managing a large project team. Typical projects will be £5-£8M in value.
  • Comfortable managing a team, including the management of remote resource. Ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, with a track record of delivering results.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen
  • Proactive attitude, with an eye for detail.
  • Experience of managing health and safety in a construction environment,
  • Valid CSCS / ECS & SMSTS certificate.
Useful additional elements: Experience working within Datacentres / critical infrastructure manufacturing environments. Knowledge of BMS industry and supply chains. First Aid & IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers Experience with different forms of contract and sub-contract. Knowledge of necessary Contractual procedures and requirements (e.g. the Construction Act)
