ROYAL VICTORIA INFIRMARY / GREAT NORTH CHILDREN’S HOSPITALDIRECTORATE OF CHILDREN’S SERVICESLOCUM CONSULTANT PAEDIATRIC NEUROLOGISTREF. 317-LCON-20-287We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.Applications are invited for a 10 PA post in Paediatric Neurology based at the Great North Children’s Hospital (GNCH) in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a brand new post that we anticipate will become a substantive post in the near future and is being advertised at the same time as a substantive replacement post.. The successful candidate will join a vibrant Paediatric Neurology department composed of 3 NHS Paediatric Neurologists (in addition to the locum post being appointed), 3 Clinical Academic Paediatric Neurologists, 2 NHS Consultants in Paediatric Neurodisability and 1 Clinical Academic in Paediatric Neurodisability.The GNCH Paediatric Neurology and Neurodisability Service makes a major clinical contribution to the success of 4 nationally commissioned services in Rare Mitochondrial Diseases, Rare Neuromuscular Diseases, the SCID transplant Service including novel CAR-T therapy and the Children’s Cardiac Transplant Service. This is in addition to offering specialised services and research in neurorehabilitation following acute brain injury, adaptive mechanisms of recovery following early stroke, regional paediatric complex epilepsy service including ketogenic dietary therapy (KDT) and the nationally commissioned Paediatric Onset Multiple Sclerosis service.The GNCH Paediatric Neurology Service provides tertiary level care for children with neurological disorders throughout the North East of England and Cumbria. This is achieved through a region-wide PICU retrieval service for acute emergencies, a dedicated paediatric neuroscience inpatient facility on ward 1b and outpatient services provided at GNCH and through a network of outreach clinics across the region. The post-holder, though based at GNCH, will be expected to contribute to this outreach model of outpatient care. The NUTH NHS Trust provides regional paediatric neurosurgical and neuro-oncology services on the GNCH site where the region-wide Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and retrieval team are co-located.In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the most successful teaching NHS Trusts in the country.
