Job Description

Summary We are looking for a Land Use and Farming Advisor to help us make the land we look after healthier and more resilient. We want landscapes with more nature, that are accessible to more people, and that help to address the climate crisis. Interviews will include a farm walk on part of the Wallington estate, and for this reason cannot be held virtually.For more information or a chat about the role, please contact Emma Wright: .uk or call What its like to work here Our Land Use and Farming Advisors provide technical advice to property teams on all aspects of the management of our agricultural land. This includes land farmed and managed in hand, as well as supporting our tenants and othersresponsible for managing National Trust land, including commoners. The new Land Use and Farm Advisor will join our Land and Nature Consultancy team in the North of England, which currently includes two other experienced Land Use and Farming Advisors. They will report to the Consultancy Manager for the North East Land andNature team.The successful candidate will have a patch like no other: from high peaks and moors to coastal dunes, and thousands of hectares of pasture, woodland and arable in between. They will be joining a national network of Land Use and Farming Advisors, who offera wealth of peer support and experience. They will work closely with our Estate Management team, and with other specialist advisors for nature, woodland and water. What youll be doing This role will cover a portfolio of properties in Northumberland and the North East, based in the Newcastle or York office. With roughly 1/5th of NT land located in the North of England, there is tremendous potential in this region forthe successful applicant to help our properties and tenants deliver landscape-scale change. There will be an expectation of working across the whole North region as required, based on skills, knowledge and capacity. Other options for portfolios in the North may be available depending on experience and can be discussed with applicants at interviewstage. Who were looking for Our new Land Use and Farming Advisor will be able to demonstrate:

  • excellent engagement skills, and a readiness for challenging conversations
  • experience explaining current farming issues and opportunities to a farming audience
  • substantial practical knowledge of farming and other land management systems
  • detailed understanding of farm businesses and experience of options appraisals
  • practical understanding of the principles of regenerative agriculture, soil management and farm carbon management
  • experience advising on agricultural waste regulations infrastructure
  • experience advising on agri-environment scheme design and application.
