Job Description

Jackson Hogg are delighted to be exclusivelty partenered with a specialist construction business in the North East with their Head of HSE position.As the Head of HSE, you will be able to carry out the below :

  • Provide guidance and support to the management team on best practice in relation to health, safety and environmental matters including an understanding of CDM regulations, construction processes and standards
  • Act as the competent person for all HS&E matters across all sites and offices, offering support and training, managing the risk process and completing all HS&E activities relating to the Operation side of the business
  • Drive the 5S culture across the business
  • Report on health, safety and environmental performance at site level
  • Lead the investigation process relating to incidents/accidents and compliance breaches
  • Co-ordinate internal and external audits in relation to the safety and environmental standards, ensuring follow up actions are implemented
  • Develop and drive health and wellbeing initiatives contributing to overall worker safety
  • Develop and drive environmental standards, initiatives and goals
  • Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Systems of Work in cooperating safety and environmental requirements, undertaking risk assessments as appropriate
  • Regularly manage reviews of the HS&E system
  • Drive the continuous improvement of employee health, safety, welfare and environmental issues through promotion and communication
  • Develop and deliver internal health, safety and environmental awareness training
  • Establish positive, effective and credible working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the business (and where applicable clients, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, authorities and third parties)
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and industry best practice
  • Assist in the completion of tender documents and PQQ’s
  • Taking action to mitigate the impact and likelihood of HS&E risks
  • Performing other duties in accordance with business needs
The successful Head Of HSE should possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • Credible leader with a track record of leading a HSE team in a directly employed workforce
  • Construction related background working for principle contractors.
  • Hold a recognised NEBOSH qualification
  • CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
  • Strong interest in and understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements and issues in a construction and manufacturing environment
  • A strong communicator with all levels in the business and high attention to detail
  • Organised and calm under pressure
  • Able to work in a confidential manner
  • Approachable, friendly, professional and a team player, you will be self-motivated, determined and have a can do’ attitude.
  • You must be a driven and motivated individual who is eager to learn.
  • Extensive experience of leading accident and incident investigations and producing reports
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Internal HS&E audit experience
  • Ability to lead and work with stakeholders on various levels
  • This role involves travel across the UK so candidates must be willing to work away from home when needed
  • Valid UK drivers licence
