Job Description

Salary: £51,034 - £54,131 with progression to £59,135 per annumClosing Date: 19 September 2021The RoleThe Head of Business Intelligence, Analytics and Insight plays a key role in strengthening the Universitys Strategic Business Intelligence, Analytics and Insight capability and co-ordinating a University-wide approach to strategic information and insights.You will work alongside the Head of Planning and staff in distributed business intelligence roles to ensure that the University has the management information and reporting capacity and capability to support strategic and operational decision-making.Key Accountabilities

  1. To lead the development of capacity and capability across the Universitys Business Intelligence and Insight community, and wider community of senior managers, to achieve advancement in evidence-based decision making, strategic insights, sophisticated dataanalysis and modelling, and data literacy
  2. To lead the development of a University Business Intelligence (BI) strategy, working closely with NUIT, to coordinate Business Intelligence development, technical and policy management and to improve the overall University level of BI maturity
  3. To lead the development of a strategic data governance strategy, setting out the approach to the overall architecture, governance, structure and definition of strategic and management information and the underlying data that supports and enables this, toimprove University data definition, quality, consistency and data literacy
  4. To lead the University development and co-ordination of strategy and management information dashboards, supporting and coordinating the distributed Business Intelligence community in creating a coherent set of well-designed dashboards that provide leaderswith relevant, timely, accurate, high quality meaningful information
  5. To lead and coordinate the development of a range of strategic insight reports, supporting and coordinating the distributed Business Intelligence community in delivering insightful analysis and interpretation of strategic and management information to supportstrategic analysis and decision making
  6. To work closely with the Head of Planning, to support the Director of Strategic Planning and Change in identifying future trends, patterns and changes in policies and political priorities and the proactive monitoring of market trends and competitor activityin the UK and globally
  7. To lead and coordinate University high-level strategic oversight and performance reporting, including quarterly and annual strategic performance reports to Council and Senate
  8. To work closely with the Head of Planning to ensure that the University has the data and corporate information it needs to make well-informed operational and strategic planning decisions, including quarterly and annual reports to Council and Senate on performanceindicators, and to satisfy current and future external reporting requirements, including the identification and acquisition of new internal and external data, information and insight.
  9. To provide professional leadership and management for the University Business Intelligence team and to work closely with other professional service teams/individuals in faculties and PS with a business intelligence and insight role
  10. To provide support to the Director of Strategic Planning and Change in the delivery of their portfolio of responsibilities and to deputise on key University groups and committees and external groups as required, and to contribute to the overall developmentof maturity of Strategic Planning and Change
  11. To undertake other specific projects on behalf of members of Executive Board and the Director of Strategic Planning and Change as determined from time to time
The Person (Essential)Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • An excellent understanding of the Higher Education sector and the political and policy, regulatory and reporting context research intensive universities operate in
  • A strong understanding of Higher Education data sets
  • Experience of leading the development of a data governance strategy in a large complex organisation
  • Experience of identifying an organisations information requirements and ensuring that it has the data and information it needs to support strategic and operational planning
  • Experience producing strategic insight reports for senior leaders in a complex organisation
  • Advanced skills and experience working with large complex data sets and using data analysis tools, dashboards and business intelligence systems to analyse, interpret and communicate insights and information to a range of audiences
  • Experience of managing and leading a professional team (including distributed members of a team) within a large and complex organisation
  • A strategic thinker with a strong understanding how strategy development, planning, implementation and strategy oversight operates in a complex organisation
  • Experience of leading the development of strategic dashboards in a large complex organisation
