I am recruiting a graduate software engineer for a staff position in central Newcastle. This is working for a global engineering company.The Engineering function is a multi-disciplined team that provides technical support to all other functions and is responsible for product design, innovative product development and the delivery of the complete manufacturing and technical data packs associatedwith our contracts. The team also provides hands-on support for installation, testing and commissioning of new equipment, both internally and at all customers sites, all over the world.Job Purpose Reporting to our New Product Development Manager, you will be involved in all stages of the software design lifecycle - requirements capture, design, code, test, acceptance, release, and support. You will learn to follow software processes andprocedures whilst creating high quality and robust code.Key Responsibilities1. Learn about our products to build your understanding to apply your own ideas.2. Assisting in the design, test and implementation of software which forms part of a properly engineered system.3. Overcoming development obstacles to deliver quality code on time.4. Troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing systems.5. Assisting in producing detailed designs and documents using required standards, methods, and tools.6. Generating operating and troubleshooting instructions suitable for integration into customer manuals.7. Communicating professionally with fellow staff, directors, and clients.8. Stay up to date with new technologies, methods, and languages.9. Maintain strict deadlines and prioritise workflow accordingly.Skills/Experience A degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering (or similar) with a grade of at least a 2:1 or an equivalent qualification and experience (e.g., apprenticeship). Excellent analytical and numerical skills. Clear and effective communication skills. Experience with Linux and developing real-time software in C/C++, Java or Python is essential. Experience of robotics / machine control systems / automation is desirable. A basic understanding of electronics and the ability to read electrical schematics is essential. Experience with ROS, machine learning and OpenCV advantageous. Knowledge of CODESYS or similar PLC software is beneficial. Experience of testing or reviewing software written by others is desirable. Effective problem-solving skills.Ability to investigate and interpret data, issues, and situations, to make sound decisions in high-stress situations. Ability to communicate complex procedures to colleagues. Self-motivating, proactive and results driven approach. Resilience under pressure. Excellent knowledge of MS office applications including Excel and Word.candidates must have right to work in the UK & be able to pass a security clearance.This role is offering a salary of £30k as well as a generous benefits package including annual bonus, free 3 course lunch on site everyday, 25 days holiday + bank holiday + ability to buy an additional 5 holidays, generous pension & private health care amongother things.for more information contact Louise.
