Job Description

We celebrate multiple approachesand points of view and believe diversity drives innovation, so were building a culture where difference is valued.The RoleThe Portfolio & Finance Manager will track the ITS departments finances, ensuring suitable controls are in place and ensure c£25m - £30m annual spend is kept in line with the agreed budget. The role will also work alongside the CIO to manage headcount,approvals for recruitment and review any new work coming into the department.Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual portfolio planning exercise and assist in structuring the portfolio to best meet the needs of NRF and to work with senior business and IT stakeholders, to create a balanced ITS portfolio.
  • Develop and implement standard processes for teams involved in delivering the project portfolio and keep it updated with any changes.
  • To lead the annual budgetary planning exercise by working with senior business and IT stakeholders to understand, assess and compile the complete ITS annual budget and to work with the EMEA CIO to obtain approval, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Develop a commentary to allow the Executive Board and other senior stakeholders to understand how IT expenditure in the firm is incurred. Develop the concept of fixed, variable costs, and discretionary spend and apply these in relation to monitoring progressin delivering the firms strategy.
  • To work closely with the NRF Finance department to ensure reporting is aligned and financial queries from either department are resolved effectively.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the departments budget, tracking spend, managing budgetary change and communicating any subsequent impact to delivery
  • Identify and monitor spend with our top tier suppliers, making sure the ITS relationship owner in each case is actively looking to make cost savings annually
  • Review BAU costs incurrent in line with actual costs received and work with operational team leads to monitor and control operational cost expenditure.
  • To work with the Head of Programmes and Director of Operations to communicate the approved budgets at the start of the year and to coordinate the approval for any budgetary changes throughout the year, maintaining the primary budget tracker
  • To provide a monthly report to the relevant ITS stakeholders showing actual spend for projects, programmes and operational expenditure to enable accurate tracking
  • To maintain visibility of global expenditures in relation to EMEA deliveries and provide relevant data to ITS stakeholders.
Skills and Experience Required
  • A passion to add value and drive efficient processes across a leading legal professional services firm, working in collaboration with colleagues with a practical delivery and stakeholder focused attitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to translate financial jargon for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Experience of performing a similar role in the legal, finance, engineering or other professional services organization, devising and implementing new processes to improve portfolio and financial management maturity in the department
  • A team player with the ability to collaborate across all areas of the ITS and the business
  • Experience with working in a mature, PMO environment with the ability to recommend, define and apply standard methods in a pragmatic way.
  • The candidate will be one of the faces of IT on which senior stakeholders will form opinions of our capabilities. As such the required candidate will need to demonstrate a positive can do attitude.
  • Experience of PRINCE2, MSP and other project delivery methods, with the ability to demonstrate their practical application.
  • Actively looks for opportunities to improve financial or portfolio practices, presenting proposals or working with others to implement them
  • Excellent track record in financial control. A working understanding of financial accounting practices including the different treatments for capital, revenue and resource expenditure.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and influencing skills to work successfully & confidently at all levels including senior IT, Business management, and other financial and non-financial professional and business services staff.
