Turnitin is headquartered in Oakland, Calif., with international offices in Newcastle, U.K., Utrecht, Netherlands, Melbourne, Australia, Seoul, Korea and throughout Latin America.Job DescriptionAccountant - 6 Month ContractThe Accountant is primarily responsible for the revenue reporting of several foreign subsidiaries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and supporting other functions within the accounting department, as necessary.This position requires the ability to work, adapt, and evolve in a fast-paced environment, often working under tight deadlines, changing requirements, and with teams in multiple time zones. Dedication, quick thinking, good decision-making, and a high sense of urgency are critical traits for this role.

  • Managing the revenue reporting for the foreign subsidiaries. Includes calculating revenue recognition for each contract, identifying accounts receivables and cash activity, booking transactions to the appropriate GL accounts and liaising with internal teams to investigate discrepancies.
  • Weekly cash application of customer payments on the foreign subsidiaries accounts receivable balances. Includes reviewing bank activity, investigating discrepancies, following-up with various internal functions, and tracking all cash activity to ensure proper recording.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for foreign subsidiaries bank accounts during the month and during month end close, following up on any discrepancy in a timely manner.
  • Assist with maintaining proper internal controls and ensure only authorized transactions are processed. Ensure appropriate segregation of duties through adherence to documented internal controls procedures. Work with the wider finance team to ensure establishment of internal control policies.
  • Streamline processes and improve existing procedures. Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
  • Provide support to management and other internal customers as needs arise, including ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects.
  • Qualifications
  • Be educated to degree standard, achieving a 2:1 or above. Or, in lieu of degree; 3+ years of equivalent relevant business experience.
  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA), part qualified with experience will be considered.
  • Advanced Excel skills and hands-on exposure to accounting systems (NetSuite preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact across a variety of functional areas
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities, and tight deadlines with follow-through and minimal supervision
  • Must be able to move among various tasks and address responsibilities in a hands on, detail-oriented manner with an ability to work efficiently and accurately
