In collaboration with architect Richard Norman Shaw, he created Cragside, the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity along with the first proper installation of the electric light bulb.He was alsothe first international arms dealer, with much of the wealth used to create Cragside coming from the weapons he developed that were used in conflicts across the world.Cragside house was truly a wonder of its age. It is crammed full of ingenious gadgetsmost of them still working. Beyond is a great woodland landscape with gardens and water courses to be explored along the miles of footpaths that crisscross the ruggedhillside. Children will love exploring Nellys Labyrinth, a network of paths and tunnels cut out of a vast area of rhododendron forest. What youll be doing With your love of working with people and desire to provide an excellent service, youll acknowledge, welcome and engage every visitor, offering them help and advice with their purchases. This means maintaining a thorough knowledge of our products, so yourealways on hand to help, and by ensuring that all stock is correctly priced, and the shop is maintained to a high standard.As a key member of our retail team, youll maximise the profit and sales generated at our special place, by ensuring that every opportunity is taken to increase our sales and average customer spend. When interacting with our customers, youll inform themof the amazing work we are doing, and what their money is fundingwhether this is financing local projects or promoting our national strategy, cause and membership offer.
