Summary This position is kindly funded by Defra through the Green Recovery Challenge Fund (GRCF) and aims to set in motion a pipeline of nature-based projects while creating and retaining jobs. A c£3.85 million grant has been awarded to the National Trust by the National Lottery Heritage Fund on behalf of Defra which will deliver a significant programme of work including:•Nature conservation and restoration, including tree planting, ecosystem restoration and species recovery;•Nature-based solutions, particularly for climate change mitigation and adaptation; and•Connecting people with nature.The programme, “Delivering Nature Rich, Historic Landscapes, Resilient to Climate Change”, consists of 5 projects across the country at some of our most historic and important landscapes; including Wallington, and is helping the Trust deliver its strategy for restoring a healthy, beautiful, natural environment. What its like to work here Wallington’s estate has a unique opportunity to deliver for nature on a landscape scale. Our £800k ‘Green Recovery’ project is the first step stone to deliver our 50 year land and nature vision working with 4 farms centring around the Hart Burn to create and connect habitats, restore the river and create new woodlands on a substantial scale.As part of the project we want to engage with our staff and volunteers, visitors, the local community and locally based schools and community groups to share in the work we are doing. Using a range of approaches from conversations, practical experiences and programmed visits, we will build awareness and connection to this exciting and unique project, laying the foundations for nature recovery into the future.National Trust Wallington are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a proven track record of youth and community engagement in conservation. Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing You will have a reasonable understanding of land-based conservation practices and experience in devising and delivering practical sessions with groups in the outdoors. Working alongside the Countryside team and the Programming and Partnerships Manager at Wallington, you will help to shape a programme of activities for the groups that we wish to engage with through this project.Your role will be to devise and deliver a relevant, exciting and successful engagement programme. You will have excellent planning, organisational and communication skills to develop the programme, coupled with creative flair and imagination to bring together rich and rewarding engagement activities.You will have the confidence and skills to work with and inspire students from primary school age to GSCE and A-level; as well as community groups from a range of diverse backgrounds, our visiting public, members of staff and volunteers.You will be able to talk with passion and advocacy for nature recovery and the conservation work we do on the Wallington estate. Who were looking for We’re looking for a great candidate who can demonstrate to us:• Experience of involving communities and stakeholders from a range of backgrounds in project work.• Understanding of the importance of developing strong relationships whilst working at pace.• Knowledge and experience of developing engagement experiences that are flexible and inclusive, particularly with outdoor practical volunteering in mind.• The ability to work effectively with a range of internal stakeholders across a small geographical region.• Ideally, we’re looking for someone with knowledge of, and more importantly, infectious enthusiasm for nature, conservation and the outdoors.
