The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust is continuing to develop and grow to meet the needs of our patients and local communities. We are looking for committed and passionate individuals with different levels of qualifications and clinical knowledge and experience to join our team. Our current vacancies include: Assistant Practitioners, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and Advanced Speech and Language Therapists.You will join a large, dynamic team of Speech and Language Therapy colleagues in established, multi-disciplinary teams who are committed to providing the best quality service to our patients. We actively encourage professional development and provide opportunities for all in the Speech and Language Therapy team to contribute to the development of the service.An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Autism Inpatient Service for a full time, permanent, Band 7 Advanced Speech and Language Therapist. You must be an experienced and dedicated individual, who is able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop the delivery of the Speech and Language Therapy within the autism inpatient service. You will have experience of working; with adults with autism, in an inpatient setting, within an MDT and in a leadership/supervisory role.Mitford Unit is an autism inpatient service for adults who are on the autism spectrum, who have extremely complex needs and display challenging behaviours to the extent that their needs cannot be met by local assessment and treatment services. The service also provides diversion for individuals who have been inappropriately placed within secure services.The base for this post will be the Mitford Unit, which is located on the Northgate Hospital site in Morpeth, Northumberland.The service’s clinical model is based on a time limited model incorporating detailed pre- and post-admission assessment, evaluation and treatment of needs, specification of community provision and detailed discharge planning. The time scales are constructed to ensure that momentum to return individuals to their home community is not lost and that lengthy hospital stays are avoided.Mitford has been specifically designed to allow for highly individual environmental adaptations to reduce anxiety and positively impact on challenging behaviours.The post holder will need to be confident in providing high quality, evidence based assessments and interventions and have an understanding and experience of working with young people with mental health difficulties in complex environments.The post holder will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. There will be a requirement to share knowledge and skills specific to communication to other members of the team including stakeholders.Regular support and supervision will be available and professional supervision will be provided by a Speech and Language Therapist. The post holder will be expected to actively engage in the supervision and the continuing professional development process.
