Job Description

Farm Manager - Mercaston Derbyshire45 hours a week£28,700.00 per annumWe are offering a great opportunity for an experienced Farm Manager/Stock Person to manage a 9 acre smallholding in the delightful hamlet of Mercaston.This role requires applicants to be able to work independently as you will be solely responsible for the management of the smallholding and will need previous experience in handling livestock. The smallholding is currently home to horses, alpacas, sheep,goats and pigs and the family also have several large dogs.This is a varied role which will include the daily task of land and animal management including mucking out and feeding, together with other duties to include:

  • Fence, paddock and farm building/shelter maintenance and repair
  • Stock keeping of animal feed, bedding and other items and ordering in a timely manner
  • Liaising with vets and farrier as necessary
  • Animal husbandry
  • Maintain health and safety standards across the farm
  • Exercise horses on the ground using natural horsemanship methods
  • Exercise dogs
  • Ability and willingness to attend the smallholding during unsociable hours if and when necessary.
The successful candidate will live locally due to the rural location of the property, the possibility of being called out to deal with emergencies and challenging travel conditions during winter months.This position requires you to have a genuine love of animals and a strong commitment to their welfare. You should be conscientious, reliable and punctual with good organisational and communication skills. An understanding and enabling approach towardsindividuals with special needs is required.Candidates must hold a full clean driving licence and a trailer licence is also required. You will need your own vehicle to travel to and from the smallholding due to the location.Hours of Work45 hours per weekMondayFriday:9.00am until 5.00pmSaturday: 9.00am until 2.00pmSalary£28,700.00 per annum (to include call outs as required)
